The City of Milton has been awarded a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to finish improvements on Canal St.
The $750,00 grant from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity will help facilitate the completion of work started on Canal St. as well as improvements to Gill Bass Park, a passive park on the corner of Canal St. and Pine St.
Back in 2013 the City of Milton received a $700,000 grant to start work on Canal St, which was used to repave the street, put in sidewalk and install bases for 36 street lights planned for the park as well as along the street.
To make all of these improvements a reality the city will be adding another $50,000 from city funds.
The Gill-Bass Park property was donated to the city back in 2010 by Steve GillWork on the project should start sometime in early 2016 with a completion date of all improvements being done by November 2017.
Included in the grant is $137,000 to move electrical, phone and cable lines underground along North Canal Street from U.S. 90 to Berryhill Street to enhance the area aesthetically.
The project upon completion will also complement Milton’s master plan, which focuses on connectivity between the village of Bagdad and downtown Milton.
